Competency as a Service

Proving competency under the Building Safety Act requires demonstrating individual skills, knowledge, experience, and behaviours (SKEB) alongside organisational capability. Duty holders, designers, and contractors must provide verifiable proof through industry standards, frameworks, and transparent record-keeping.

 

What does this mean in practice ? If you are involved in managing Health & Safety at your consulting organisation - you need all of your professional consultants (architects, engineers, surveyors and so on) to have undertaken appropriate training (including Health & Safety), taken recognised assessments, and then evidenced competency to you. You then need to be able to track this, report on it, close any gaps - and then importantly - make this available to the regulator, and also in your tender responses to show that your organisation is competent.

Many organisations (from small to large) simply don't have the time, tools and knowledge to manage this - some today may be using HR tools, and some will be using spreadsheets and emails. This is both clumsy and error prone, and isn't easily shareable with a regulator or a potential client.
